Summer 2008
We are in full swing
summer mode and cold beer is flying out the door. Even though we work
hard on stocking our frosty cooler with some of the most eclectic and
brew arround, its also are mission to remind you of all of the
summer wine options we offer. We're chilling down our favorite
Porch wines in the cooler and showcasing more on our 10 under $10 rack..
Now is the time for thirst quenchers. Light reds, crisp whites and
livley roses. Wine for the shade, in the garden, under the tree,
and on the porch. Summer Porch wines are lighter in alcohol and
tannins and some even have a fresh spritz on the end. Think cool, light
and refreshing.
Lighten up, my friends!!
Let those Napa Cabs and Barolos collect some dust for a few months and
crack into some light and lively Summer wines. When its 95 degrees outside,
adjectives like dark, rich, heavy and concentrated don't sound so appealing.
Cool off with words like crisp, zippy, vibrant,
refreshing.
You don't have to give up REDS either.
Gamay, Montepulciano, Pinot Noir, Grenache, Ruche, Lemberger are all grapes that
produce wines light in style but heavy on character. They even like a slight
chill to them. And let me stress that when you forfeit weight and concentration
in a wine, there is no lack of depth or flavor. Complexity thrives in
subtleties, finesse and length. Whites....
drop the 2 by 4 chardonnay sandwich smothered in
butter sauce and grab a a snappy Vinho Verde from
Portugal that dances in your mouth with crisp green apples and a slight spritz.
Gruner Veltliner from Austria invigorates the weather
weary soul. Cool climate Sauvignon Blanc grabs a hold
of your face and smacks it around with bracing grapefruit acidity. Kick back
with Spain's Verdejo and let the harmonious flavors
of cool honey dew melon wash over you. Torrontes from
Argentina will lift you up to a patch of white mountain flowers far above the
sweltering streets of Denver.
And don't forget all the sensational Pinks that have infiltrated the store. My Rosé battle cry
from May carries on throughout the summer. Actually I stand on a giant fuchsia
stained box all year and preach the holy pink bible.
So whether its a
picnic, your patio, deck, porch or open window, cool off with our wine of the
month or any of the "10 under 10"
selections.
Here's what you need to get you through the Summer.
I had to stretch for some of these and others sound some what offensive
but its all in the name of Summer time wine. Feel free to contribute to
the list.
